The bill provides for educational benefits for members of the Selected Reserve who have a 6 year obligation originating after 6/30/85. Officers must have agreed to serve for 6 years in addition to their original obligation. For certain training programs, the 6 year commitment must begin after 9/30/90.
Type of Assistance
The bill provides for a monthly payment to full-time students and can be applied to up to 36 months of education. The program allows for “kickers” paid by the Department of Defense of as much as $350 per month. The benefits may be used for the same type of educational pursuits as the Active Duty provisions of the Montgomery GI Bill.
Your Benefits
A monthly check will be sent to the Reservist for the established and annually adjusted rate of pay. In most cases, benefits must be claimed within ten years of separation from service. These benefits cannot be transferred to dependents.
